About the author and illustrator
Shannon Meyerkort is a West Australian author who writes across genres. She comes from an academic background in the health and social sciences, has a research Masters in Public Health, a post-graduate diploma in Health Sciences Education, a post-graduate diploma in Professional Communication and an honours degree in Anthropology looking at medical/social stigma.
Shannon has several prize-winning short stories and articles in print and in 2022, placed in the Top 10 of the inaugural Best Australian Yarn short story competition, from more than 4,700 entries nationwide. In 2022, her novel, The Carrington Effect, was also longlisted for the Hungerford Prize. She is a 2022 KSP Fellow and had a place on the 2020 Fremantle Press/Four Centres Emerging Writers Program. She is also a bookseller at Dymocks, Subiaco.
Amy Blackwell is an artist and a creative dabbler based in Nottingham, UK. She’s inspired by the weird and wonderful; clashing colours; the natural world; history; fashion and folklore. If there’s any opportunity to draw patterns on something, she’ll give it her best shot. Amy has had an online illustration and art business since graduating from university in 2007. She began illustrating books in 2018 including Earth Heroes and Aretha Franklin (Little People, Big Dreams #44). Brilliant Minds is Amy’s second book with Affirm Press following the popular Rise Up!, published in 2019.
